About the Artist

Joyce Zimberg

My fascination with the world of art may have begun when my painting (“Chinese Girl in a Pet Store”) was chosen to be exhibited at the famous Lever House in New York. I was only eight years old but it was immensely exciting to me. Apparently, though, I seem to have had an interest in art even earlier. My parents took me to museums as a young child. What a glorious discovery. I went to the High School of Music and Art. I attended Pratt Institute and studied sculpture, industrial design, and drafting. I studied at the Crafts Student League, as well as several private studios. Nine years ago I was introduced to decoupage under glass. Its brilliant colors, beautiful patterns, mixed media and whimsy appealed to me.
Decoupage is a labor-intensive method of creating glass objects that become almost magical in their luminosity.
The images can be, for example, themes of figures, flora, fauna, and land and marine animals in diverse settings.
With the use of metallic powders and paint, acrylics, lasered papers, and my imagination, each piece is unique
and can be custom designed.
